Singapore Fireworks Festival 2006

It's free, but crowded like sardines. But if you enjoy sparkly lights and sweating bodies, head down to marina bay for fireworks by teams from differnet countries like Italy, Singapore, France and New Caledonia. New Caledonia ? Anyway, be sure to 'chop' a space early, ok !.

Visit to the Philatelic Museum and Singapore Arts Museum

On Sunday, we visit the Singapore Philatelic Museum . It was free as it was open house day. (I am cheap.)

There are lots of interesting exhibits, from how stamps are made to how the post office works. There is exhibit on Singapore WWII history, a section on Dog stamps. The sea creatures room was fun. You can relax, play with some cards and for the kids, do some coloring and drawing, and stamp sea creatures onto paper as souvenirs. At the entrance/exit, you can fill in a simple quiz to win some prizes. We got a bookmark.

We also pretended to be stamps :)

An interesting way to spend an hour or so.

You can park at ROM or the neighbouring carpark at coleman rise (behind the old National Library)

Open house days are :
New Year's Day, 2nd Day of Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, International Museum Day, National Day, Deepavali and Christmas.

We also hoped over the Singapore Art Museum as it was also free. It is big and do not have much activity for kids, but at least it inspired my son to paste his paintings all over our walls. I found that the paintings could sustain his interest so at least he wasn’t bored. It is not the Lourve but an interesting activity for a morning. Parking can be found at Waterloo Street. Currently they are having an interesting theme of Fiction@Love, exploring love through anime, comics and manga. This should appeal to the kids and teenagers.

Things to Do : Strawberry Smoothies

Strawberry Smoothies.

Here is a sweet, somewhat healthy homemade drink that’s easy to do. First, you’ll need

  • Fresh strawberries (about 4 medium sized ones)

  • Vanilla Ice-cream

  • Fresh or low fat milk

  • A Blender

Cut and wash the strawberries and put them in the blender. Put 2 scopes of ice-cream and about ½ a cup of milk into the blender. Blend until the mixture is smooth. Pour it out for a fresh, refreshing drink that kids will love.

Try out different fruits like kiwis, bananas for different tastes.
